Offered here is a period forgery/fantasy label in the design of a "One Cent Despatch" Washington DC local post stamp, imperforate, blue, depicting George Washington on horseback beneath an arch with the inscription "WASHINGTON" at the bottom.

The genuine Washington DC local post stamp - issued by the Washington City Despatch Post - correctly reads "WASHINGTON CITY." This example reads only "WASHINGTON," which philatelic forgery references including the Klaseboer catalogue of U.S. locals identify as a known forged type. Several variant forgeries of this design are documented, all considered fantasy/bogus labels rather than genuine postal issues.

The stamp presents in blue on aged paper, imperforate on all sides, with characteristic ink show-through on the reverse consistent with period lithographic fantasy production.
