Philippines WWII Liberation - First Victory Stamps at Reopened Post Office, January 19, 1945 - US Soldier Cover

An extraordinary piece of World War II Pacific liberation history. The cover bears a printed cachet reading:

"FIRST DAY COVER - FIRST REGULAR VICTORY STAMPS SOLD IN REOPENED POST OFFICE IN THE LIBERATED PHILIPPINES - JANUARY 19, 1945"

Dated nearly four months before the official Manila Victory overprint First Day of May 1, 1945, this cover originates from a small post office in the early-liberated Philippines - almost certainly on Leyte, where General MacArthur's forces landed October 20, 1944. Manila itself was not liberated until late February/early March 1945.

Stamps: Multiple Victory/Commonwealth overprint values - 1c, 2c, 4c, 6c, 8c, 10c, 12c, 16c, and 20c - among the earliest documented uses of these stamps at any reopened Philippine post office.

Address: Prepared by and for Pvt. Emile J. Ward, 230th Signal Operations Company, APO 72 c/o Postmaster, San Francisco, California - a US soldier present at this historic post office reopening. The combination of Philippine liberation postal history with a direct US military connection gives this cover exceptional crossover appeal.

Cancel: Small Philippine municipality post office cancel, partially obscured - consistent with an early-liberated Leyte location.

Condition: Overall very good for age; some toning to brown kraft envelope. Clean reverse, retained as a philatelic document rather than mailed through the APO system.
