Philippines Victory/Commonwealth Overprints - CEBU First Day Cover, July 21, 1945

A scarcer variant of the Victory/Commonwealth overprint First Day Cover, distinguished by its Cebu Post Office origin rather than the more common Manila cancellation. As postal services were progressively restored across the liberated Philippine islands in 1945, individual cities held their own first days for the Victory overprint stamps - Cebu first day covers are considerably less frequently encountered than their Manila counterparts.

Date: July 21, 1945 - the Pacific war still ongoing, less than four weeks before V-J Day. Circular purple CEBU POST OFFICE / JUL 21 1945 / FIRST DAY COVER cancel, with additional Philippines machine cancel.

Stamps: Eleven Victory/Commonwealth overprint values - 1 peso (Barasoain Church), 30c, 20c Special Delivery, 20c, 16c (Magellan's Landing), 12c (Salt Spring), 10c, 8c (Pearl Fishing), 6c, 4c, and 2c - a strong near-complete set missing only the high peso values.

Addressed to Seymour Pels, 729 Prospect Avenue, Bronx, New York - a US collector who arranged to have this prepared during the liberation period.

Condition: Overall good; some aging to envelope. Reverse shows brown staining and old adhesive/tape residue on flap as shown - please review photos carefully.
