Philippines Victory/Commonwealth Overprints - CEBU First Day Cover, July 21, 1945

Scarcer Cebu-cancelled Victory/Commonwealth overprint First Day Cover addressed to a known Bronx, New York collector - one of multiple covers prepared in Cebu on this date by Mr. S. Pels of 729 Prospect Avenue, Bronx NY, an active Philippines philatelist who arranged FDC service there during the liberation period.

Stamps: Nine Victory/Commonwealth overprint values - 30c (Blood Compact), 20c, 16c (Magellan's Landing), 12c (Salt Spring), 10c (Fort Santiago), 8c (Pearl Fishing), 6c, 4c, and 2c - with crisp purple CEBU POST OFFICE / JUL 21 1945 / FIRST-DAY COVER circular cancel and Philippines machine cancel.

As postal services were progressively restored across the liberated Philippine islands in 1945, individual cities held their own first days for the Victory overprint stamps - Cebu FDCs from July 21, 1945 are considerably scarcer than the more common Manila examples of May 1, 1945.

Addressed to Mr. S. Pels, 729 Prospect Avenue, Bronx, New York.

Condition: Overall very good; stamps bright with clear cancels. Reverse clean with only minor aging - no staining or adhesive residue.
