Hawaii 5 Dala Stamp Duty Revenue Scott R4 — Perforated, OG, Unusual Separation

Offered here is an attractive example of the Hawaiian Islands 5 Dala Stamp D I uty revenue, Scott R4, printed in red-orange with the blue typeset "STAMP / 5 / DUTY" surcharge. "ELIMA" at top and "ISLANDS" at bottom, with "DALA" in the lower tablet - a handsome and scarce 19th century Hawaiian fiscal.

The interesting detail: Scott R4 is cataloged as rouletted, but this example is clearly perforated on all four sides, with clean, uniform round-hole perfs. This raises questions that specialists will find intriguing - possibilities include a privately perforated genuine stamp (not uncommon with Hawaiian revenues), a reprint, or a period forgery. The paper appears appropriately aged and substantial. Approximately 75% original gum present, which is surprisingly sound for this material.

No certificate accompanies this stamp, and it is priced accordingly. Offered as-is for the collector who enjoys a good philatelic puzzle or wants to pursue expertization themselves.
