Great Britain 1840 1d Penny Black, plate letters S-E, on original complete folded entire dated November 2, 1840. Cancelled with red Maltese Cross. Addressed to Thos. Dalton Esqre., Solicitor, Cardiff.

Complete original legal contents intact - a bill of costs from Henry Philipps, London, in the matter of Gorton Daun v Pardoe, In the Exchequer of Pleas, Trinity Term 1840. This is a genuine period document, not a philatelic cover prepared for collectors.

Stamp: Three clear margins, bottom part of right margin close to tight. Red Maltese Cross cancel is moderately heavy, covering portions of the head. Plate unidentified - serious platers are welcome to examine the microscope images provided. No thins detected, paper appears sound.

Entire: Some soiling and fold lines consistent with 185-year-old document. Original contents complete and legible.

A scarce survivor - complete entires with original 1840 contents are significantly less common than stamps on piece or loose examples.
