Broadway Post Office 26L NY Forgery Taylor/Hussey Local Locomotive Cinderella

A striking period forgery of one of the most visually memorable stamps in all of American local philately - the Broadway Post Office New York, Scott 26L, printed in black on white paper, imperforate as produced. The design features a classic early American locomotive at full steam, framed within an octagonal border with "BROADWAY" arched at top and "POST-OFFICE" at the foot - a design as bold and dynamic today as it was when it was first produced in the mid-19th century.

Forgeries of this stamp are documented from two of the era's most prolific forger-dealers. S. Allan Taylor - the Boston-based "Master Grafter" responsible for hundreds of bogus and forged US locals - is specifically recorded as having forged the Broadway Post Office stamp. George Hussey is also documented as a forger of this issue, with the Carriers and Locals Society's Penny Post journal having published dedicated research specifically on Hussey's forgeries of the Broadway Post Office stamps. Period forgeries from either workshop are recognized antique philatelic artifacts in their own right, studied and catalogued with the same rigor as the genuine stamps they imitate.
