On April 3 2003 in New Orleans, LA the USPS celebrated the bicentennial anniversary of the signing of the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana region, named for French King Louis XIV, covered territory from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains, between Canada and the Gulf of Mexico. By a treaty dated April 30, 1803, the United States bought the land from France for about 15 million. The Louisiana Purchase, and the explorations that followed, opened the way for Western expansion in America.

These are real USPS postage stamps that are accepted by the USA Postal Service as payment for mail posted in the USA however the total rates on the stamps posted must equal or exceed the current appropriate postal mailing rate or extra postage must be paid.
