On June 26, 1998 in Washington DC., the USPS honored four American folk musicians; Huddy "Leadbelly" Ledbetter, Woody Guthrie, Josh White, and Sonny Terry, and the valuable contribution they made to music and the social consciousness of the nation as a whole. These early performers wrote songs about important political issues as well as heart-wrenching ballads. This se-tenant is the 11th installment in the Legends of American Music Series that began in 1993.
