On July 11 1995 in Boston, MA., the USPS issued their next addition to the Great Americans Series honoring Alice Hamilton, she was a leading expert in the field of occupational health, her research exposed many hazards, and was a pioneer in the field of toxicology. Hamilton campaigned for ventilation, anti-toxic rinses, and other safeguards that were especially important in aiding the safety of women and children. She was the first woman appointed to Harvard's faculty as Assistant Professor of Industrial Medicine. A member of the International Congress of Women, she was also one of two physicians appointed to the U.S. delegation to the League of Nations Health Commission.
