1942 Army photograph was chosen as the design for the stamp celebrating the Alaska Highway's 50th anniversary. Construction on this 1,500-mile highway was begun in March 1942 and ended in November that same year. During World War II, it served as the principal route for connecting Army bases in Alaska with the continental U.S.
These are real USPS postage stamps that are accepted by the USA Postal Service as payment for mail posted in the USA however the total rates on the stamps posted must equal or exceed the current appropriate postal mailing rate or extra postage must be paid.
