On March 24, 1983 in Philadelphia PA, the USPS commemorated the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Sweden and the United States. In 1783 the United States' Ambassador to Paris, Benjamin Franklin, and the Swedish Ambassador, Count Gustaf Philip Creutz, signed a treaty of amity and commerce. The treaty - the first such treaty between the U.S. and another nation - was a pledge between the two countries to keep lasting peace and friendship.
