On February 22 1982 n Mount Vernon the USPS celebrated the 250th anniversary of the birth date of George Washington, the Father of Our Country. George Washington served as the first President of the United States from 1789 to 1797 and as the commander of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783. Because of his significant role in the revolution and in the formation of the United States, he is often revered by Americans as the "Father of Our Country". Washington was born on February 22, 1732 and died on December 14, 1799 at the age of 67.
