1965 Dante 700th Anniversary Plate Block Of 4 5c Postage Stamps - MNH, OG - Sc# 1268 - CX211
Issued in 1965, the US Post Office dept. commemorated Dante Alighieri on the 700th anniversary of his birth, the famed Florentine poet who wrote "The Inferno." This stamp, designed in the style of early Florentine allegorical paintings, depicts Dante wearing a wreath (a symbol of poetry) with a background relating to his poem, "The Divine Comedy."
