1936 LZ-129 Hindenburg First North American Flight Cover - New York to Switzerland

Colorful illustrated cachet cover carried on the Hindenburg's inaugural 1936 eastbound crossing, canceled New York May 11, 1936. Bears the large purple "Lakehurst Trans-Atlantic First Flight / Frankfurt-am-Main 1936" cachet alongside the blue LZ-129 Hindenburg illustrated envelope cachet. Franked with the 15¢ Map airmail (Scott C8) and 25¢ Trans-Pacific airmail (C20) meeting the correct 40¢ Hindenburg rate - an attractive and somewhat unusual stamp combination. Addressed to Birsfelden, Switzerland - a less common non-German destination. Return address of Irving Hoffmann, Glendale, N.Y., a well-documented Hindenburg cover producer. Back bears Frankfurt (Main) arrival backstamp and "Mit Luftschiff Hindenburg Befördert D-LZ 129" label. Envelope appears to contain original enclosure or stiffener card and has not been opened.

Condition: Front bright and presentable. Back flap shows toning/staining as pictured. C8 and C20 stamps sound with good cancel.
