1936 LZ-129 Hindenburg Westbound Flight Cover - Third Reich Germany to Washington, D.C., with Original Letter

Westbound Hindenburg cover franked with the 50pf and 75pf "Mit LZ 129 nach Nordamerika" special Zeppelin airmail stamps (Michel 606-607), issued specifically for the Hindenburg's North American service. Bears the bold red "Deutsche Luftpost Europa-Nordamerika" circular flight cachet with airship vignette, Berlin "ab" departure cancel, and "Mit Luftpost Par Avion" airmail label. Handwritten "Luftpost / Zeppelin Hindenburg" endorsement upper left. Addressed to Herrn Everett C. Parker, 1625 16th St. NW, Washington, D.C. New York transit backstamp May 9, 1936 on reverse confirms westbound crossing arrival. John E. Barbour collector stamp on reverse.

Importantly, this cover retains its original typed letter insert - a single witty line reading: "When this letter left the United States I was still on pretty good terms with you. How have you been behaving yourself since?" The writer's self-aware humor about the Hindenburg's transatlantic transit time makes this a rare example of a Hindenburg cover with genuine personal correspondence intact. Covers retaining original contents are significantly scarcer than empty envelopes.

Condition: Front presents well with strong cachet and stamps. Cachet shows light bleed-through to reverse typical of thin German covers. Small tear on envelope flap on reverse. Light overall toning. Original letter insert clean with appropriate fold lines.
