Typed "By Airship HINDENBURG to Frankfurt a/Main" endorsement on this eastbound cover mailed from Chicago, Illinois August 8, 1936 and received Frankfurt August 12, 1936. Franked with a pair of 20¢ Golden Gate stamps (Scott 567) meeting the 40¢ Hindenburg rate. Back bears the Flug-und Luftschiffhafen Rhein-Main arrival marking and Frankfurt (Main) circular backstamp. Addressed to Frau Hanne Goldschmidt, Altona-Grossflottbek, Germany.

Condition: Front shows light aging and minor soiling consistent with age. Back flap has notable toning/staining. Priced accordingly.

A genuine piece of transatlantic airship history from the Hindenburg's final operating season before the 1937 disaster.
