1929 FAM 6 Inaugural First Flight Cover Santo Domingo to Miami High School Club

FAM Route 6 inaugural first flight cover, January 9, 1929, originating from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Pan American Airways' historic Caribbean airmail inaugural. Franked with Dominican Republic stamps - the 2 centavos Alcazar de Colon and 10 centavos blue airmail map stamp. Blue transit handstamps on face record the cover's journey through intermediate Caribbean route points. "Via Air Mail - Envelopes of this design approved by P.O.D. for exclusive use in Air Mail" printed label at lower left. The cover bears the rubber-stamped label of the Stamp Club, Congress High School, Bridgeport, Connecticut - a charming provenance indicating this was prepared by a young philatelist who carefully planned ahead to catch the inaugural flight.

The reverse tells the full story: mailed from Bridgeport, Connecticut on January 4, 1929 - five days before the inaugural - to arrive in Santo Domingo in time for the historic first flight. Miami, Florida backstamp dated January 10, 1929 confirms the return leg through Miami. "Air Mail Saves Time" label also present on reverse. The sender's name, George Gordon Jr., appears on the reverse flap in elegant purple script - applied with what appears to be a personalized collector's name stamp, a mark of a serious young philatelist who took his hobby with appropriate formality. Some pink ink smudging on reverse consistent with age.

A genuinely charming piece of youth philatelic history from the FAM 6 inaugural - a teenage stamp club member's carefully planned first flight cover that made the complete journey.
