Historic eastbound cover carried on the Graf Zeppelin's inaugural transatlantic passenger flight, canceled Lakehurst, N.J. October 28, 1928 on departure and backstamped F That one here has been canceled you don't want it put in there do you riedrichshafen November 8, 1928 on arrival - confirming actual carriage on this landmark voyage. Features the illustrated Statue of Liberty cachet with "By German Airship LZ-127 From Lakehurst, N.J." in red, and the large purple oval "First Flight Air Mail / Via Graf Zeppelin / United States - Germany / Oct 28 1928" cachet with globe vignettes. Franked with the 20¢ Golden Gate airmail (Scott C9), 25¢ Niagara Falls (Scott 568), and 30¢ Buffalo pair (Scott 569) - an attractive mixed franking of airmail and regular issue definitives meeting the correct $1.05 eastbound Zeppelin rate. Addressed to Herrn Leo Wasmer, Konstanz, Baden, Germany. Produced by the Airpost Stamp Co., 108 North Dearborn St., Chicago - one of the most prominent early airmail cover producers.

The Graf Zeppelin's October 1928 transatlantic flight was a worldwide sensation and the first successful transatlantic passenger airship service. Covers from this flight represent foundational pieces of airship postal history predating the Hindenburg era by nearly a decade.

Condition: Front presents well with bold cachets and attractive stamp franking. Back shows ink spotting and cachet bleed-through typical of these early covers. Friedrichshafen arrival backstamp clear and legible.
