1928 LZ-127 Graf Zeppelin First Transatlantic Flight Cover - Chicago to Berlin, with C9 Partial Plate Block

Unusual and eye-catching franking on this genuine Graf Zeppelin first transatlantic flight cover, canceled Chicago, Illinois October 25, 1928 and backstamped Friedrichshafen November 1, 1928 - confirming actual carriage on this historic inaugural voyage. Handwritten "Via German Air Mail / L.Z. 127 / Lakehurst, N.J." routing endorsement. Bears the purple oval "Air Mail United States - Germany" flight cachet.

Franked with a partial plate block of four 20¢ Golden Gate airmail stamps (Scott C9, plate number 18881 visible on selvage) plus an additional C9 single and one 5¢ Beacon on Rocky Mountains airmail (Scott C11) - five C9s and one C11 totaling the correct $1.05 eastbound Zeppelin rate. The use of a plate block strip on a Zeppelin flight cover is highly unusual and will appeal to both airmail stamp collectors and Zeppelin cover specialists. Addressed to Mr. George H. Luebs, Berlin, Germany, with Chicago return address - consistent with a collector documenting the flight.
Condition: Cover shows significant wear including corner foxing upper left and right, a prominent horizontal crease along the lower portion of the cover between the address lines, and back soiling with ink spotting. Friedrichshafen backstamp legible. Frankings intact and sound. Priced to reflect condition.
