1960 Robert A. Taft Plate Block of 4 4c Postage Stamps - MNH, OG - Sc# 1161
On October 10 1960 in Cincinnati OH the USPS honored Robert Alphonso Taft, Republican US Senator and prominent conservative statesman. As the leading opponent of the New Deal in the Senate from 1939 to 1953, Taft led the successful effort by the conservative coalition to curb the legal privileges of labor unions, and was a major proponent of the foreign policy of non-interventionism. He was such an important leader of his political party, he became known as Mr. Republican. He died in 1953 at the age of 63.
