On April 3 1973 in New York, NY; the USPS honored Thomas Paine, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was an author, pamphleteer, radical, inventor, intellectual, revolutionary, known most for his widely pamphlet "Common Sense" that advocated colonial independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. He also authored the pro-revolutionary pamphlet series "The American Crisis". Paine was born on February 9, 1737 and died on June 8, 1809 at the age of 72.
